I'm typically a person that doesn't like surprises.  I like life taking place in an orderly way. When it comes to my home finances, the same goes.  I don't like surprises.  Yes, I do understand that emergencies do take place but even in those case I like to be prepared.  When it comes to moving day, ensure that you do not get an added surprise in your wallet.  Here are 5 ways you can reduce your moving costs.

5 Ways to Reduce Moving Costs

  1. Be ready when the mover's arrive.  Mark your boxes clearly for proper placement in your new home.
  2. Don't pay to move what you don't need.  Consider donating or selling items that are no longer useful to you and make a trip to the dump to get rid of broken items.  Purging will feel good.
  3. Move small items yourself (i.e. plants)
  4. Move many of your boxes to a central room where they can be easily loaded onto the truck by the movers.
  5. Disassemble large items (dressers, beds, mirrors etc.) yourself.  This goes for re-assembly as well.
